Purpose of the Consultancy: Support the revamping of the World Antibiotic Awareness Week (WAAW) campaigns and facilitate the mainstreaming of antimicrobial resistance messages into major global events and scientific conferences.
 
Background: The Department of Global Coordination and Partnership on Antimicrobial Resistance (GCP) leads and coordinates the global One Health response to antimicrobial resistance through facilitating and managing strategic and innovative partnerships and providing secretariat services to global governance mechanisms on antimicrobial resistance in collaboration with the FAO, OIE  and other UN and international agencies as well as Member States and partners including the civil society and private sector. The Department facilitates the implementation of the recommendations of the UN Interagency Coordination Group on Antimicrobial resistance, strengthen evidence-based and coordinated response against antimicrobial resistance across the One Health spectrum in humans, animals, plants, food, feed and the environment through the development and implementation of global vision, goals and targets, political advocacy and engagement, and facilitating innovative partnerships and contributes towards the achievement of the SDGs. It also promotes synergy, set priorities and advocate to unblock bottlenecks for research and development for antimicrobial resistance across the One Health spectrum.
 
Work to be performed
The consultant will support the revamping of the World Antibiotic Awareness Week (WAAW) campaigns and mainstreaming of antimicrobial resistance messages into major global events and scientific conferences through. 

  • Liaise with Tripartite organisations, WHO regional and country offices and other stakeholders, and ensure advocacy and awareness materials are delivered in a timely fashion for WAAW;
  • Identify global advocacy opportunities and develop strategies to mainstream antimicrobial resistance containment and mitigation interventions
  • Assist the development of advocacy and awareness materials in various formats and media aligned with overall global narrative on AMR as a key global public health issue in one health context;

 
Deliverables

  1. A roadmap outlining the key steps to revamp WAAW campaigns based on best practices and experiences, evidence and country specific requirements in close collaboration with the Tripartite organisations and partners;
  2. High quality advocacy and awareness raising documents for mainstreaming AMR containment and mitigation messages into major global events and scientific conferences
  3. Other related duties, as required by the supervisor and the Department.

 
Requirements for qualifications and experiences

  • Educational Qualifications:  
    • Essential: Advanced degree in social sciences or public health 
  • WHO Competencies
    • Communicating in a credible and effective way
    • Producing results
    • Knowing and managing yourself
    • Moving forward in a changing environment

 
Experience required:

  • Essential:
    • At least seven years of progressive work experience in public health including on global advocacy
    • Project management skills combined with strong technical writing skills for different audiences
  • Desirable:
    • Demonstrable knowledge and skill in developing online and social media campaigns
    • Knowledge of antimicrobial resistance and communicable disease
    • Experience in organising public health campaigns

Language requirements:
Essential: Expert knowledge of English.
Desirable: Knowledge of other WHO official language would be an asset
 
Place of assignment:
The place of assignment will be WHO Headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland
